GE Energy: Workplace Realignment

Typical Floor

The proposed workplace solution incorporated support spaces (light green) with a new conferencing seat ratio of 0.8:1 to support the new collaborative work environment and we organized around communal gathering areas (pink) toward the interior. This arrangement of the program allowed for the limited amount of natural light found on only three sides of the building to be visually accessible to all staff, and create collaborative “destinations” around the building core. The ability for everyone to have access to natural light ranked high in the survey results and was a big part of the success of the design. With the new open plan, leadership was much more visible on the floor, which resulted in the staff reporting the ability to meet with leadership more frequently. This led to faster project turnaround and overall increased satisfaction.
