The Process

The project commenced with a needs assessment that involved community organization focus groups that provided senior services (such as The Alzheimer’s Association), family caregivers, and potential guests experiencing early stages of dementia. Jewish Senior Life included senior management in the entire design process bringing diverse perspectives to this unique model, while designers applied 25 years of experience with special care environments and a recently completed POE of five buildings built over a 20-year period. Program components also evolved with input from volunteers on focused activities to build continuity between participants and their former community roles as teachers, bankers, or craftspeople.
