The Process

A post-occupancy evaluation (POE) was conducted to understand how well the design met the project goals. The study’s methodology consisted of a building walk-through, with annotated plans and photographs, and interviews with key administrators, high school faculty, maintenance staff, and the Director of Health and Wellness. In addition, a survey was distributed to all building occupants (residents, staff, faculty, and students), with 413 responses (a return rate of 88%). Pre- and post-renovation utility bills were also compared to understand the renovation’s impact on operating costs. Data analysis included a comprehensive review of all collected data; and culminated in a summary report, roundtable discussions with the owner and designers, and conference presentations.
