Case Study 1:

Felician Sisters: POE

Coraopolis, Pennsylvania

The Outcome

This study explored the ways an organization can use POE findings to promote organizational change. Action items were created based on the results; and the researchers, designers, and client were responsible for following-up on the research by making improvements and decisions based on the lessons learned. The architect indicated that the active method of knowledge sharing (i.e. the roundtable discussions, in addition to a standard report) was a more effective way to disseminate practice-based knowledge, which promotes evidence-based design. The client also reported that the study’s findings were used for organizational change through informed decision-making; reinforcing the organization's mission and core values through shared knowledge; highlighting links between the physical environment and the organization; and developing community identity and culture.
