Kendal Design Guidelines

Not Yet Available

The Outcome

The Kendal Design Guidelines focus on the defining characteristics of the physical environment that are specific to a Kendal community. The guidelines: adapt to a broad range of conditions (including diverse sites, contexts, programs, and markets); balance the adherence to principles with the need for adaptability; and present ways in which the physical environment can not only meet people’s needs but also provide opportunities for growth. The Design Guidelines also aim to challenge accepted practices by encouraging The Kendal Corporation to reflect upon the decisions and priorities that gave rise to their existing communities. By adopting a culture of inquiry focused on organizational learning, Kendal ultimately will be able to develop communities that reflect the organization’s shared values, appeal to different lifestyles, and create opportunities for innovation.
