Case Study 1:

Dunbar High School

Washington, DC

Lasting Results

In addition to optimizing the site by designing a vertical campus, the team used all large horizontal surfaces of the site to enhance the environmental performance of the school, including the football field for geothermal heating and cooling and the roof for photovoltaic panels. The design team also negotiated reduced parking requirements due to its access to public transit. This resulted in halving the parking thereby reducing impervious surface on the site.
