Case Study 4:

East End Cooperative Ministry

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Because of an antiquated combined storm/sewage system, as little as 1/10" of rain can cause raw sewage to overflow into Pittsburgh rivers. Additionally, nearly 60% of East Liberty surface area is impervious. At Community House, 90% of annual rainfall is now captured and treated. There has been a 51% reduction in potable water for sewage conveyance and 63% water use reduction.

Ultra-low flow plumbing fixtures decrease the building's water usage by over 60%, saving 600,000 gallons per year over a code-minimum building.
