Case Study 7:

Felician Sisters Convent and High School

Coraopolis, PA
Not available

The Outcome

To address the sisters' desire to conserve energy and address the long-term sustainability and environmental sensitivity of their community, existing building features were incorporated into the renovation plans.

The convent renovations, including Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School, used ground-source heat pumps, daylighting features for natural illumination and reduced electrical consumption, low VOC and recycled materials, and a system to save rainwater for landscape watering. Several acres of lawn were alse transformed into meadowland using native plants. Given the number of sustainable design features of the project, it is now used as an educational tool for students and community members. Moreover, the US Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded the renovation with LEED-NC Gold certification.
