NYU Langone Medical Center

New York, New York
Perkins Eastman has a decade-long relationship with NYU, completing more than 40 projects totaling over 300,000 sf (28,000 sm).

Major projects: Clinical Cancer Center: 113,000 sf outpatient comprehensive cancer center in a new 13-floor facility near the hospital’s main campus. With an overall focus on patient wellness and comfort, the new center includes radiation oncology, infusion therapy, diagnostic radiology, and exam and consultation clusters for specialized cancer care medical staff.

Ambulatory Surgery Center: Adaptive reuse of former industrial facility into an ambulatory surgery center for growing health service campus. Focusing primarily on orthopedic and sports injuries, the 22,800 sf (with 17,000 sf on the ground floor and 5,800 sf of basement support space) works as an adjunct to the Hospital for Joint Disease and accommodates four operating rooms and 12 PACU beds, and has the potential to expand to another two ORs.

Intensive Care Unit: Phased renovation in its current location of outdated intensive care units that doubled space to 20,000 sf and increased occupancy from 32 patients to 35 patients while bringing the ICU into compliance with current guidelines. Acclaimed by both administration and Intensive Care staff, the new ICU provides significant improvements to patient care, including: larger patient rooms (all but two are private rooms); patient lifts at every bed; a bedpan sterilizer in every patient room; new HVAC systems; improved medical gases; and increased staff and support spaces.

Tisch Hybrid Operating Room: A complete gut renovation to accommodate appropriate engineering systems and required structural supports for a large and multi-functional piece of equipment—a state-of-the-art angiography machine designed by Perkins Eastman. This specialized platform for cardiac surgeries is enhanced by a state-of-the-art Siemens Zeego ceiling-mounted angiography interventional imaging system

Cardiac and Vascular Center: Renovation of 12,000 sf (1,100 sm) for cardiac catheterization and non-invasive diagnostic cardiology.

Child Study Center: Located in a new residential tower, this 17,000 sf (1,600 sm) facility promotes good mental health for children and young adults with an environment that is both comforting and playful. Its use of natural lighting, color, and scale balances the requirements of a research facility with the special sensitivity needed for the intimate nature of patient treatment.

Radiology Department: Master plan and multi-phased renovation of 30,000 sf (2,800 sm) of imaging space in several areas, maintaining continuing operations and minimizing changes to building mechanical systems.

Medical School Department of Medicine: Renovation of 13,700 sf (1,300 sm) of hospital space for three wet labs and all necessary support, such as equipment room, tissue culture and microscopy labs, darkroom, computer lab, quiet room, and offices, pantry, and conference room. The laboratories house newly recruited research physicians.

In-vitro Fertilization Center: Renovation for diagnostic and research spaces including examination and procedure rooms, two operating rooms, and laboratories for in-vitro fertilization, embryology and andrology.
