Harper College: Master Plan

Harper College: Master Plan

Palatine, Illinois
Harper College’s 200-acre main campus, with 24 buildings, serves more than 30,000 students annually with a variety of credit and continuing education programs. The campus is situated in an attractive green neighborhood surrounded by a network of forest preserves 40 minutes from downtown Chicago.

To realize Harper’s vision as a leading 21st-century community college, concept designs for the master plan recognized the needs of an increasingly diverse student body for campus places that enhance the college experience. A key consideration was the campus' general accessibility and visibility from its approach, which the plan addressed through a new campus entrance that provides better orientation, drop-off, bus shelters, and short-term parking. In addition, a new student center/campus center unites “one stop shop” facilities for admissions, registration, financial aid, and student counseling with informal dining, gathering places, and access to new fitness facilities added to the existing gym. To accommodate significant growth in academic and support programs such as Public Safety and the Arts, the plan recommends new facilities to complement the recently constructed science and health careers facilities.
