TD Securities: Technology Group

New York, New York
As one of the top-ranked financial companies in the world, this client is known for its innovative approach to providing products and services that create value for its clients. This design challenge involved a 30,000 sf, full-floor renovation to help attract and retain the top talent among technologists. The client required a departure from the traditional design found in the majority of financial service firms to a forward-looking, open environment. To illustrate its commitment to this approach, the client leased and designed the space prior to signing-on any new staff. This provided a unique and successful recruitment strategy.

Departing from a traditional financial workplace supports the company’s cultural and brand directive that each of its offices “connect people to places in their journey to create the better bank.” To help the client achieve this goal, the designers created a multi-sensory environment to provide a diverse range of experiences and tools to help alleviate stress, improve cognitive function, health, and wellbeing, and accommodate various work styles. For example, the designers challenged and redefined conventional planning concepts like eliminating the main reception and static waiting area in favor of a hospitality-focused café. Offices also double as flexible conference rooms, and war rooms can be opened, and incorporated into team zones.

After several months in the space, the workforce has grown, and a post-occupancy evaluation soon will reveal how the design has influenced the end-users. The early feedback is promising, as reflected in one technologist’s endorsement, “This space inspires me to come to work. Please redo all our floors!”

Overall, the result provides a successful combination of established brand guidelines blended with the unique goals of new Technology Group business unit.
