Perkins Eastman | White Plains Hospital

White Plains Hospital

White Plains, New York
White Plains Hospital is in the midst of an evolution from a community hospital to the “’Hospital of the Future”—a hub for advanced care in the region and the heart of Montefiore Health System’s growing Hudson Valley network. Perkins Eastman has been working with WPH on several different projects that together transform its facilities to state-of-the-art centers of health and wellness for the surrounding community.

Major projects:
Center for Cancer Care: Expansion of the cancer care program at White Plains Hospital through a new six-story building connected at three levels to the existing building, which has been fully renovated as a part of this project’s 55,000 sf scope (Radiation Oncology will be complete later this year), creating a seamless experience between the two buildings.

A new two-story glass lobby entrance and building façade welcomes patients to the Center, which features renovated infusion space including 16 private and 18 communal infusion bays; new physician office space; and a full-service cancer program that includes a boutique/retail space, prosthetic fitting, complementary therapy, café, conference room, blood draw/lab, and patient resource areas. Perkins Eastman is responsible for the planning, programming, and interior design of the renovation and expansion program and the interior architecture of the infusion bays, while Posen Architects is the Architect of Record for the overall new building.

Master Plan: With 277 beds, White Plains Hospital Center (WPHC) is a major center for emergency care, diagnosis, and treatment of increasingly complex medical conditions. The facility undertook a master plan focused on major modernizations and a full redevelopment of the site. The overall 205,805 sf program targets: expansion of surgery, radiology, and the laboratory; consolidation of ICU and CCU; increase the percentage of single medical/surgical patient rooms; new entrance lobby; and connecting link, elevator, and bridge to the existing parking garage. The master plan identified 85,805 gsf of new space to be built mostly in three contiguous buildings: a six-level west addition; a three-level driveway addition; and a new entrance lobby. The plan also incorporated a new medical office building of 120,000 sf.

Major Modernization: As identified in our master plan, major projects include:
• New Lobby: The entirely new entrance to the hospital features a lobby that opens up to double the height in key locations, creating an airy, light-filled focal point and area of respite for patients, their families, and hospital staff and enhancing connectivity while concierge services will assist upon arrival, underscoring the quality of the patient experience. A covered porte-cochere, boutique gift shop, food venue, enclosed connection to the parking garage, and other amenities help transform the hospital campus into a newly modern, inviting environment focused on health and wellness.
• Six-story patient care building that includes 24 private patient rooms; six new labor and delivery suites; and five state-of-the-art operating suites equipped to accommodate minimally invasive surgical techniques.
• Central Sterile
