Along the Hudson River in the Bronx, River’s Edge brings together life plan community needs and sustainable design in the newest addition to RiverSpring Living’s 32-acre campus. The independent living community adds 260 new residences and amenities to round out existing assisted-living and long-term care residences while enhancing the vibrancy and health of the campus.
Residences will include one- and two-bedroom units, ranging in size from 750 to 1,400 square feet. The new building will introduce life-enhancing amenities including a Pilates studio, indoor saltwater swimming pool, library, spa and music room among others. Located along the Hudson River, the campus provides residents access to green spaces accented with outdoor sculptures, towering trees, and waterfront views.
The 11-story building preserves precious open space, a priority for the client, design team, and community groups. The new building will exceed New York City’s Energy Conservation Code standards, featuring a geothermal system for heating and cooling, and utilizing the existing campus-wide cogeneration plant for additional energy.
Approximately 70% of the roofs will be covered with sedum to reduce the urban heat island effect and save energy. Blue roofs will manage stormwater by releasing cleansed water into on-site retention basins. Inside, daylight occupancy sensors will adjust lighting based on natural light and occupancy to enhance energy efficiency. These sustainable features make River’s Edge a model of eco-friendly living, providing residents with a comfortable environment that meets modern environmental standards.
