For the city’s World Expo in 2010, Perkins Eastman designed a competition entry for the Public Event Center comprised of large meeting, banquet, and festival halls. Facing the Huang Pu River, the complex features entrances with formal public and VIP lobbies and a footbridge with access to public gardens. Above the gardens, a vibrant loggia with LED tiles broadcasting events and imagery connects all three buildings, provides circulation spaces for events and ceremonies, and includes gathering areas with stunning cityscape views. Designed to minimize impact on the environment, the Public Event Center incorporates sustainable technology and energy-efficient systems contributing to a resilient future for Shanghai.
