New York, NY (May 20, 2025) – Perkins Eastman, a global design firm dedicated to elevating the human experience, announces the opening of a new studio in Kansas City, MO, led by Andrew Rutenbeck, AIA, NCARB – an architect with significant expertise in the city and region. Joining the firm as Managing Principal, Rutenbeck will also lead the firm’s growing practice in the region.

The new studio will enhance the firm’s presence across Perkins Eastman’s active portfolio of work in Kansas City. Currently in development, the Berkley Riverfront which broke ground in early 2025 is being transformed into a mixed-use destination designed to reconnect downtown to the waterfront, bringing with it new multifamily residential, dining, retail, and a public promenade. Additionally, the Swope Health Village, currently under design, will offer a new health and wellness campus in the heart of Kansas City’s Town Fork Creek neighborhood—providing affordable senior housing and wellness services to a historic and resilient community.

“Formally planting our roots in Kansas City is a long time in the making,” said Shawn Basler, co-CEO and Executive Director. “The city is experiencing a transformation and growth – we are fortunate to be part of this forward momentum, and look forward to growing our presence with Andrew given his expertise.”

A thriving economy, significant infrastructure upgrades, and job and population growth are driving a city-wide transformation. “Kansas City has always felt like home to me, and as one of the fastest-growing Midwest cities, there is national attention on development here,” said Rutenbeck. “I am looking forward to building a team here to make a lasting impact in the city and throughout the region.”

Rutenbeck has led in a number of notable projects rooted in health that actively support the wellness of the community, including healthcare, education, housing, and commercial developments. A graduate of Kansas State University with a Master of Architecture, Rutenbeck is also a member of the American Institute of Architects and holds a National Council of Architectural Registration Boards Certification.
