Since he was young, Chen has always been curious about the world and has taken pleasure in drawing and observing it. He was drawn into the architecture field when he found the ideas and lines coming out of architects’ minds and hands could become a built reality that enriches people’s spatial experiences with imagination and inspiration.
Chen’s body of work encompasses diverse project types such as K‐12 schools, senior living, workplace, mixed‐use and residential—located in equally diverse climates and regions such as DC, Maryland, Virginia, New York, Florida, Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia. Chen believes good design responds to a project’s unique cultural and climate context, requires cross‐disciplinary collaboration, adds great value to its stakeholders, and makes a meaningful impact on the built environment. His well‐rounded technical skills, experience throughout each project phase, out-of-the-box thinking and strong communication skills ensure that each of his projects moves forward effectively and meets the client’s design goals, budget, and schedules. Chen’s inquisitiveness and the ability to see the big picture bring clarity to projects’ complex issues and help the team to make sound decisions.
Chen specializes in developing high-performance and sustainable K-12 schools. He is always excited to see how his design team can have a positive impact on students’ learning environment and transform the community’s education landscape into a forward-thinking and sustainable future.
