Stony Brook Medicine’s Emergency Department is designed as a state-of-the-art facility to provide 24/7/365 care for residents and visitors in the communities on the farthest end of the South Fork of Long Island, including the Town of East Hampton, Amagansett, Montauk, Sag Harbor, and Springs.

The emergency department is equipped with advanced diagnostic technologies and life-saving treatments, including a dedicated resuscitation room; cardiac monitoring capabilities in every exam room; specialized fast-track treatment rooms for general, pediatric, obstetrics/gynecology, and ophthalmology patients; two isolation rooms; a comprehensive imaging center with MRI, CT scan, Ultrasound and X-ray; and an on-site ambulance for hospital transport. The building features eco-friendly innovations such as rooftop solar panels, a rain-catch garden, and native plantings to reduce environmental impact.

The building’s low profile, compact footprint, sloped standing-seam roof, large front porch, and wood-like façade panels give it a residential look, making it a friendly presence in the neighborhood.

The design delivers a dignified patient experience, maximizing light and views in public areas, while smaller, vertical windows control light and provide privacy to patients in the clinical areas. A large glass clerestory under an upwardly angled roofline allows natural light to penetrate the center of the building, creating a pleasant work environment for nurses and doctors.
