Celebrating Earth Day, Every Day

At Perkins Eastman, sustainable design is Human by Design

This Earth Day

This Earth Day, we are celebrating the strides we’ve taken in combatting the climate crisis while acknowledging the progress we still need to make.

It All Starts with Culture

Sustainability isn’t merely an environmental or a technical challenge, it is also a cultural one. With a robust sustainability network across the firm—a group that tackles everything from energy and carbon to material health to advocacy—we aim to engage and inspire everyone in driving progress forward.

Our Operations are Key

Last year we conducted our first comprehensive, third-party verified audit of our corporate carbon emissions associated with our operations. We intend to offset our Scope 1 and 2 emissions to become an operationally carbon-neutral firm for 2023, and we’re to continuing to advance these efforts moving forward.

Good Design = Sustainable Design

As a design firm, the most impact we can make on carbon emissions is through out work. In 2023 we reduced the energy consumption in our designs by 50% compared to the Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS) baseline. Half of our projects now use energy models to inform our design decisions. And moving forward, we are ramping this up to meet our AIA 2030 Commitment in 6 years or less.

Sustainability = Everything

But we’re not stopping there. We are tackling topics such as material health, holistic wellness, and resiliency alongside energy and carbon every day, because we believe that sustainability is everything and every little thing makes a difference.

We know we have a lot of work to do, today and every day—

Happy Earth Day!
