Designed as a pavilion in a park, Charter Oak International Academy brings to life themes of the inquiry-based International Baccalaureate® Primary Years Program (PYP) curriculum. Through a series of community workshops and discussions with educators, administrators, and families, the Perkins Eastman team envisioned a sustainable new school with flexible indoor and outdoor spaces. Oak trees in the central courtyard symbolize Connecticut, and the school’s inclusive curriculum inspired the inventive design and stunning details. The circular building plan radiates outward, filled with learning and gathering places where students can excel and their imaginations can soar.
