Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital has been the dominant provider of healthcare services in the Santa Barbara and California’s Central Coast region since the 1880s. This hospital is the largest medical facility in the County owned by the nonprofit Cottage Health System and is undergoing the most radical transformation in its 123-year history.

The project consists of three new Nursing Pavilions with single patient rooms, a new plaza, and main entry; a new Diagnostic and Treatment Pavilion; modernization of the emergency department; remodel of the East Wing for administrative and support functions; and a new Energy Center.

The nursing pavilions, or “cottages,” fit seamlessly into the Spanish Colonial Revival context of Santa Barbara and are arrayed around a series of courtyards interconnected by a river flowing through the complex. The facility combines inpatient and outpatient services in unique ways to provide a seamless continuum of care.
