East Harlem Academy Education Center

East Harlem Academy Education Center

New York, NY

The new East Harlem Education Center (EHEC) houses the East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) and East Harlem Scholars Academy (EHSA). The building is a new 6-story educational center located at the corner of Second Avenue and 105th Street. The EHEC serves as the flagship for EHTP and their affiliated programs as well as a purpose-built home for their charter school for the children of East Harlem and the surrounding communities.

The facility represents a culmination of success for the EHTP program which has existed since 1958, providing educational opportunities for achievement and enrichment. The new facility replaces the existing spaces previously located in four separate buildings and represents the true collaborative and multifaceted nature of the EHTP family of programs. Serving over 1,000 students from 26 DOE schools in after school tutoring program, the EHEC will be designed to seamlessly shift over the course of a day from the primary school function of supporting the EHSA community of teachers and 450 students, to a transitioning community facility supporting activities, tutoring, and counseling for students from grades K to 12.
