Located in Brooklyn’s newly popular East River-facing DUMBO neighborhood, Empire Stores is a complex of seven historic 19th century warehouses. Used primarily for coffee storage until their abandonment in the 1960s, the warehouses sat mostly vacant for almost 50 years before Perkins Eastman, S9Architecture, and STUDIO V Architecture gave them new life. The stunning design includes a carved out courtyard space in the heart of the complex that reactivates the structure and accommodates a mix of commercial, retail, and office uses. A new rooftop addition houses additional offices, restaurants, and a rooftop park for Brooklynites and tourists alike to enjoy unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline and the Manhattan Bridge.
