The new Fort Davis Community Center is designed to promote wellness and recreation for the Fort Davis neighborhood in Washington, DC. It offers spaces that complement the community’s fitness and cultural goals, fostering health and well-being while addressing carbon holistically. The building will also serve as the city’s first resilience hub-ready community center, offering protection from extreme weather events.
The 29,000-square-foot design replaces and doubles the size of an outdated facility. The state-of-the-art, two-story community center features a full-size gymnasium, fitness center, dance studio, and multipurpose spaces, and it incorporates biophilic design, mass-timber construction, and abundant natural light to target net zero energy. Accessible amenities include an outdoor path and elevated indoor track.
Thise strategic approach to enhanced community resilience, health, and energy efficiency within the district aims to set a new standard for sustainable urban development.
