Providing rapid and cost-effective diagnostic testing, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Clinical Labs Building accommodates blood and tissue samples processing for thousands of patients every day. Perkins Eastman worked closely with UPMC to consolidate and relocate central clinical laboratories to a vacant nine-story research building on their Pittsburgh campus. Housing 13 laboratories in one building, the team designed a streamlined facility that supports the massive demand for diagnostics and testing as well as virology, serology, microbiology, and histology procedures. With daylight in nearly every space, high performance acoustic ceiling panels, and color-adjusted LED lighting, lab and administrative environments maximize reduce stress and promote wellness among patients and staff.
